Position Summary
Loenbro, LLC seeks a Commissioning Superintendent to lead project-level commissioning for mission‑critical data center electrical builds in Cedar Rapids, IA.
The Commissioning Superintendent will manage on‑site execution of Level 3–5 commissioning, maintain established Cx processes, lead the project commissioning team and third‑party agents, and act as the primary commissioning contact to ensure safe, timely, and contract‑compliant turnover.
Key Responsibilities- Project Commissioning Leadership:
Lead planning, scheduling, coordination, and execution of all project commissioning phases Level 3–5. - Process Management:
Manage and maintain commissioning SOPs, document control workflows, templates, and Cx protocols tailored to mission‑critical project requirements. - Team Leadership:
Lead and mentor a high‑performing commissioning team of internal staff and third‑party agents; assign tasks and ensure alignment with project goals and client expectations. - Stakeholder Interface:
Serve as the project’s primary commissioning point of contact for clients, engineers, the general contractor, and vendors; participate in and present at regular progress and commissioning meetings. - Test and Energization Oversight:
Lead the project Cx team through First Time Energization (FTE), pre‑functional and functional testing, energization sequences, and integrated systems testing. - Load Banking and Energization Support:
Provide team support and resources for Load Banking and Energization activities, coordinating pre‑planning, execution, and complete documentation with internal and external stakeholders. - Documentation and Turnover:
Produce and deliver complete commissioning documentation—checklists, redlines, test scripts, issue logs, deficiency tracking, and closeout reports—organized and compliant with contractual turnover requirements. - Safety and Quality:
Enforce strict adherence to safety protocols during all commissioning phases; coordinate with Safety, QA/QC, and Field Operations to identify and mitigate risks. - Continuous Improvement:
Lead post‑project reviews to capture lessons learned and incorporate feedback into updated commissioning standards. - Cross‑Functional
Collaboration:
Work closely with Project Management, Field Operations, Safety, QA/QC, Engineering, and client stakeholders throughout construction and turnover.
- Experience:
6+ years of commissioning experience on mission‑critical data center projects with demonstrated leadership on Level 3–5 commissioning activities. - Technical Knowledge:
Familiarity with UPS, switch gear, generators, ATS, PDUs, transfer schemes, controls, and integrated systems testing methodologies. - Education:
Associate or bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, construction management, or related field, or equivalent industry experience. - Project
Experience:
Proven involvement in First Time Energization and load bank coordination on large‑scale data center projects. - Software Proficiency:
Comfortable with commissioning platforms, MS Office, scheduling tools, and document control systems.
- Leadership:
Effective on‑site leadership, team development, and third‑party coordination. - Communication:
Clear verbal and written communication for client‑facing interactions and technical reporting. - Organization:
Strong document control, test‑plan execution, and deficiency management skills. - Safety Focus:
Safety‑first mindset with demonstrated ability to enforce protocols and elevate concerns. - Problem Solving:
Practical troubleshooting during energization and integrated system testing. - Adaptability:
Ability to manage competing priorities across simultaneous site activities.
Physical Requirements
- Based in Cedar Rapids, IA with daily on‑site presence at data center construction locations.
- Regional travel between project sites as required.
- Ability to wear PPE, work in active construction zones, and perform physically involved commissioning tasks including occasional lifting and working near energized equipment under established safety procedures.
