The Avionics Test Engineering organization is a global engineering organization responsible for the design, development, and maintenance of manufacturing test solutions supporting the $5B Avionics strategic business unit and external customers such as armed services and airlines.

As a Senior Systems Engineer, you will perform analysis at all levels of the automated test solution, including concept, design, build, verification & validation, deployment, operation, maintenance and disposal.

You will support technical planning, system integration, verification and validation, cost and risk, and supportability and effectiveness analyses for test systems. You will convert product requirements into system solutions acknowledging technical, schedule, and cost constraints, decompose specifications into sub‑system requirements, generate verification criteria and plans, and support configuration, functional, timing, trade, and interface studies.

WHAT YOU WILL DO
  • Participate in program planning and risk management, both technical and programmatic from bid to deployment
  • Develop test system requirements and validation procedures; provide technical solutions for building the test solutions
  • Collaborate with project teams and external end users/customers
  • Coordinate as the primary interface with production/service center, design engineering, and test engineering (hardware and software) engineers
  • Integrate across multiple disciplines to deliver successful solutions through sustainment
  • Perform verification and validation of test solutions
  • Conduct trade studies and market analysis to benchmark industry‑leading test solutions
  • Support product line strategy for test solutions; support process improvement and reuse of technical solutions at a systems level
  • Reduce test time and analyze test failures
  • Provide technical mentoring to junior engineers
  • Occasional travel to Iowa manufacturing sites
QUALIFICATIONS YOU MUST HAVE
  • Typically requires a STEM degree with minimum 5 years relevant experience, or an advanced degree with minimum 3 years experience, or 9 years experience in absence of a degree
  • Experience with engineering development tools such as DOORS, Jama, MATLAB, Atlassian Collaboration Tools, and Microsoft Office 365 suite
  • Experience in requirements verification and validation, and developing verification criteria and procedures
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills for cross‑functional collaboration
  • Experience in requirements development, stakeholder analysis, and decomposition of systems level requirements into hardware and software subsystems
  • Good organization skills
  • Experience with Agile methodologies
  • Experience with modern scripting languages (e.g., C++, LabVIEW, Python)
  • Experience with avionics industry standards such as ARINC‑429, ARINC‑661 (display interface), ARINC‑664 (AFDX), ARINC‑818, and IEEE 802.3 (ethernet)
  • Problem‑solving skills to proactively identify alternate solutions to challenging technical problems
  • Detail‑oriented and able to manage multiple priorities in a fast‑paced environment
