Development Project Engineer; Data Center Construction

The Development Project Engineer (Data Center Construction) assists with design, preconstruction and construction activities on given projects. You will work daily with Facilities, Contractors, Designers, Engineers, Commissioning Agents, Vendors and Corporate Real Estate staff, communicating effectively in writing and orally.

• Assist Development leadership and Project Manager with day‑to‑day activities.
• Support multiple projects across campuses, maintaining updated budgets, schedules and status reports.
• Provide monthly development program & project status updates suitable for executive reviews.
• Work with stakeholders on master development programs, including campus design solutions and capital budgets.
• Handle entitlement and permitting for assigned projects.
• Develop scopes of work, participate in procurement, and estimate project costs.
• Evaluate pricing proposals for design, construction, and commissioning services.
• Coordinate with the procurement team on equipment procurement and delivery.
• Ensure coordinated submittals with site stakeholders.
• Monitor project budget/cost‑to‑date against overall project budget.
• Review schedules and manage teams to ensure on‑time completion.
• Negotiate pricing for change order requests from contractors.
• Establish and monitor site construction security procedures with the security team.
• Maintain relationships with key QTS stakeholders.
• Represent QTS interests in OAC meetings.
• Build relationships that enhance QTS’s leadership in data‑center real‑estate.
• Participate in due diligence for new land banks and properties, working with Corporate Real Estate, Connectivity, Power and Construction.
• Enhance project management processes and protocols with the internal development team.

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Construction Management or equivalent professional experience.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite, especially PowerPoint for executive updates and Excel for budgets.

• 1+ year of professional experience in commercial construction practices and procedures.
• Experience with mission‑critical data‑center facilities.
• Experience managing MEP trades.
• Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to interface with all levels of the organization.
• Capable, proven team player who fosters well‑within internal and external team environments.
• Able to solve problems at a tactical and functional level.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
