Experience:
24 months of Medical Surgical, IMCU, Stepdown, or Progressive Care experience in a hospital or medical center setting; neurology/neurosurgery care experience; orthopedic care experience; trauma care experience preferred. License:
Active Iowa/IA license or compact/Multistate license required.
Certifications:
BLS, ACLS, NIHSS preferred. Must-Have:
- Proficiency in drip management including Heparin, PCA, and 3% Sodium/Na.
- EKG/strip reading and telemetry experience.
- Skills checklist specific to Medical Surgical, IMCU, Stepdown, or Progressive Care required.
- Reference from a charge/supervisor/nurse manager/director/CNO/COO within the last 24 months preferred.
Description:
This position is for a registered nurse in the Progressive Care Unit. The nurse will be responsible for caring for patients with heavy neuro trauma, neurosurgery, craniectomy, and orthopedic issues. The RN to patient ratio is 1:5-6. The role requires the management of various drips including Heparin and PCA. Candidates must have experience with telemetry equipment, chest tubes, and airvo. Travelers may be required to float across multiple locations.
The nurse is expected to work 1-2 of the 3 upcoming winter holidays unless the unit is closed. Experience in a trauma Level I setting is highly preferred. De-escalation training such as CPI, MOAB, MAB, or SAMA is preferred.
