Unlicensed Journeyman Electrician – Helix Electric
Helix Electric, founded in 1985, is among the nation’s largest electrical contracting companies. We seek a dynamic Electrician for an upcoming data center project in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, with at least 3 years of verifiable experience in data centers.
Duties & Scope- Responsible for assembly, installation, maintenance and testing of electrical equipment and wiring systems in commercial settings.
- Prepares work area for installation of equipment.
- Installs electrical components.
- Connects wiring and equipment as per code and job specification.
- Operates equipment only if trained and certified to operate (e.g., powder‑activated tools, JLG lifts).
- Sets up and operates tools such as hydraulic benders, power threaders, power pullers and cable vacuum systems.
- Read and interpret blueprints and electrical drawings and install as specified.
- Verify dimensions, alignments and clearances per drawings or plans.
- Secure and lock up equipment after use.
- State Journeyman Electrician Certification is required in states where required or highly desirable in states without this requirement.
- Proven track record of delivering safe projects on schedule and within budget.
- Excellent working knowledge of the Building Codes.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Work in all weather conditions (heat, cold, rain, snow) depending on job location and time of year.
- Wear personal protective equipment (hard hat, safety glasses, gloves, respirator when required).
- Work 8‑10 hours per day, 40 hours per week, overtime and night shifts as required.
- Perform essential functions including crawling, standing, stooping, bending, crouching, kneeling, sitting, reaching, and routinely lifting heavy objects exceeding 50 pounds, pushing and pulling.
- Repetitive use of arms, hands, and fingers.
- Physical work constitutes more than 70% of the job.

Must hold a valid Iowa Journeyman Electrician License or a Journeyman License from one of the following reciprocating states:
Alaska, Arkansas, Colorado, Minnesota, Montana, Nebraska, New Hampshire, North Dakota, Oklahoma, South Dakota, Texas, Wisconsin, or Wyoming. Ability to qualify to reciprocate to Iowa is required.
