Job Description

We are seeking a skilled and motivated Vehicle Installation Technician to join our team and play a crucial role in preparing law enforcement, fire, and/or utility vehicles for duty. As a Vehicle Installation Technician, you will be responsible for installing, configuring, and maintaining a wide range of specialized equipment and systems in vehicles, ensuring they meet operational requirements and safety standards.

Your expertise will contribute directly to the functionality, efficiency, and safety of vehicles used to serve and protect our communities.

Responsibilities
  • Install and configure a variety of specialized police, fire, or utility equipment, including but not limited to emergency lighting, sirens, communication systems, video surveillance, computers, gun racks, prisoner transport systems, and other law enforcement-specific components.
  • Collaborate with the Installation Supervisor to plan and prioritize equipment installation based on vehicle specifications and department requirements.
  • Follow technical manuals, schematics, and wiring diagrams to ensure accurate installation and integration of equipment, adhering to manufacturer guidelines and industry standards.
  • Troubleshoot and diagnose issues related to equipment functionality, wiring, and connections and conduct necessary repairs or replacements to ensure optimal performance.
  • Perform quality control checks to verify correct installation, alignment, and functionality of all equipment, ensuring they meet safety and operational standards.
  • Maintain meticulous records of all installed equipment, wiring diagrams, and configurations for future reference and potential maintenance.
  • Stay current with industry trends, technological advancements, and regulatory changes related to police vehicle equipment and upfitting techniques.
  • Communicate effectively with team members, supervisors, and law enforcement personnel to understand specific equipment requirements and provide technical support.
  • Participate in regular training sessions and workshops to enhance skills and stay updated on evolving equipment and technology.
Basic Role Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent; additional technical training or certifications in automotive technology, electronics, or related fields are a plus.
  • Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
  • Experience in automotive upfitting, electronics installation, or related technical roles.
  • Proficiency in using a variety of hand and power tools commonly employed in automotive and electronic work.
  • Familiarity with law enforcement equipment such as emergency lighting, communication systems, and computer setups is highly advantageous.
  • Detail-oriented approach with the ability to work meticulously and accurately, ensuring high-quality installations.
  • Problem-solving skills to diagnose and address equipment malfunctions and technical challenges.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills to efficiently prioritize tasks and meet installation deadlines.
  • Excellent communication skills to interact with team members, law enforcement personnel, and supervisors.
