The City of Cedarburg is seeking a forward-thinking and team-oriented Water Recycling Center (Wastewater Treatment Plant) Superintendent to lead our talented crew as we enter an exciting new chapter in utility infrastructure development. Reporting to the Director of Engineering and Public Works, this leadership role offers the opportunity to shape the future of our Wastewater Recycling Center (WRC)—through a council approved facility rehabilitation plan.

Key Responsibilities- Oversee daily operations of the WRC to ensure compliance with WPDES permit requirements.
- Monitor and lead the City’s Adaptive Management Program to meet TMDL phosphorus standards.
- Supervise, schedule, and support six team members across lab, operations, mechanics, and collection systems.
- Coordinate preventive maintenance and repairs of the plant, lift stations, and sanitary sewer systems.
- Provide expert guidance as Cedarburg evaluates long-term wastewater solutions, including WRC upgrades or new construction.
- Manage departmental supplies, shift schedules, and personnel records.
- Prepare and submit regulatory reports to the DNR, Public Works and Sewerage Commission, and other agencies.
- Represent the department at relevant City meetings.
Prepares shift schedules; maintains time and attendance records. Initiates purchase requisitions for needed supplies for the department and maintains a variety of records relating to personnel, equipment, supplies, water consumption and reports.
Prepares monthly, quarterly, and yearly reports for the Department of Natural Resources, Public Works and Sewerage Commission and other agencies by gathering appropriate data and incorporating the information into verbal or written format; utilizes computer programs in the preparation of certain reports; attends meetings of the Public Works and Sewerage Commission and attends Common Council meetings, if needed.
Preferred Qualifications- Demonstrated experience in wastewater treatment facility operations and team leadership.
- Strong technical understanding of wastewater compliance, adaptive management, and infrastructure planning.
- Proficiency with data analysis, computer programs, and regulatory reporting.
- Excellent organizational skills and the ability to lead a professional and safety-conscious crew.
Plans and directs employee training and safety programs; investigates events involving employee injury or operational malfunction; evaluates the performance and recommends assignment of subordinate personnel. Monitors wastewater flow from industrial sources; checks for illegal discharges or dumping by waste haulers; investigates unusual odors or other complaints and assists the Director of Engineering and Public Works in resolving problems associated with the City's sewer system;
performs other work as requested.
