At Boom, we’re building toward Symphony, the first jet engine purpose-built for sustainable supersonic flight. You will work with aircraft designers, systems leads, and test engineers to architect how Symphony secondary air systems work from concept through certification, designing, optimizing, and integrating the systems that enable supersonic travel.

Role Overview

As part of the Propulsion Team, you will:

  • Lead the Secondary Air Systems engineering for the Symphony turbofan engine
  • Take ownership of the engine thermal management systems for secondary flows
  • Provide inputs to a whole engine model, evaluate results, and recommend improvements
  • Maintain a systems-wide view of Symphony, integrating needs from aero, thermal, structure, and durability
  • Develop and integrate tool chains and processes, including multidisciplinary workflows and automation that integrate engine and propulsion analyses with airframe development
  • Engage in fabrication and testing activities as part of Symphony engine development and Overture propulsion system integration
Ideal Candidate
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering or related field
  • Proficiency in Python or similar programming languages
  • Significant experience as an engine secondary air systems engineer on a turbofan architecture
  • Experience developing whole engine 1D flow networks for gas turbines in software such as Altair/GE Flow Simulator, Thermal Desktop, etc.
  • Experience leading whole engine model creation and execution
  • Experience correlating engine test data to calibrate heat transfer models for whole engine modeling
  • In-depth knowledge of seal configurations for modern turbofan architectures
  • Ability to clearly think through and communicate coupled engine and aircraft system level interactions
  • Ability to navigate CAD to support module integration in the engine
  • Willingness to listen, discuss, and contribute to team consensus while moving fast in a dynamic environment
What Will Set You Apart
  • Component or module ownership experience in a turbo machinery program or product
  • Experience with secondary air systems architecture and development programs for in-service turbo machinery
  • Experience with engine cycle analysis tools such as NPSS or Py Cycle
  • Supersonic jet engine design experience
  • Part 33 certification experience
  • Deep-dive design and analysis能力 in components
  • Background in developing design tools, methods, or processes
  • Testing and data-reduction experience
  • Experience with Axstream or ADS turbo machinery software
  • A strong drive to move fast and minimize bureaucracy in a dynamic environment
Compensation
