Senior Electrical Engineer – Facilities & Pipelines (EI&C)

Our global EPC Firm client is hiring a Senior Electrical Engineer – Facilities & Pipelines (EI&C) for a full-time/permanent opportunity in their Denver, CO office. The Senior Electrical, Instrumentation, and Controls (EIC) Engineer will be responsible for leading the development of complete electrical and I&C design packages, supporting system studies and equipment specification, and mentoring less experienced team members. You will work closely with project managers, clients, and discipline leads to deliver high-quality, practical solutions on a range of facility and infrastructure projects.
This is a hands-on design role with opportunities to grow into increased leadership, client engagement, and project responsibility.
RESPONSIBILITIESElectrical Engineering
- Lead the development and review of comprehensive electrical drawing packages, including:
- One-line diagrams, electrical area classification plans, grounding layouts, lighting plans, and raceway/conduit routing plans.
- Conduit and cable schedules, power plans, equipment layouts, and interconnection diagrams.
- Select, specify, and review electrical equipment, including switch gear, MCCs, VFDs, transformers, UPS, PDCs, and power panels.
- Perform and oversee electrical system studies, including load flow, short circuit, arc-flash, and coordination using ETAP or SKM.
- Execute and validate electrical calculations (e.g., cable sizing, voltage drop, conduit sizing/fill, short circuit levels).
- Review and approve vendor submittals, BOMs, and support equipment procurement.
- Provide technical direction for junior engineers and designers on the electrical scope.
Instrumentation & Controls (I&C)
- Oversee development of complete I&C design packages, including:
- Instrument location plans, instrument lists, and I/O lists.
- Loop diagrams, ladder diagrams, and wiring diagrams.
- Control panel layouts, terminal diagrams, and panel BOMs.
- P&IDs in collaboration with process and mechanical teams.
- Review and guide the development of instrument datasheets, control philosophies, and cause & effect matrices.
- Specify and validate design for PLCs, RTUs, SCADA, instrumentation, and control system components.
- Provide oversight on network architecture and industrial protocol selection (e.g., Modbus, DNP3, Ethernet/IP).
- Mentor I&C team members on panel design, loop development, and control strategy implementation.
- Support FAT/SAT documentation and field integration planning.
- Familiarity with I&C design software such as AutoCAD Electrical, SPI (Intools), or similar preferred.
Project Development & General Assignments
- Lead development of conceptual designs, execution strategies, and technical portions of proposals.
- Support or lead scope development, cost estimating, and schedule planning.
- Conduct and lead site walks to gather field data and evaluate design constraints.
- Participate in or lead HAZOP, LOPA, and other risk or safety reviews.
- Maintain design quality through internal QA/QC reviews, checklist compliance, and redline resolution.
- Serve as technical liaison for clients and vendors during design and procurement phases.
- Mentor junior engineers, check their work, and provide feedback for technical growth.
- Contribute to the development and improvement of internal design standards, tools, and templates.
- Support or lead construction support, including RFI responses, as-built drawing reviews, and commissioning assistance.
- A Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or related degree from an ABET-accredited program and 7 years of electrical engineering experience.
- Or a Master’s Degree can substitute as 1 year of relevant experience.
- EPC project experience preferred.
- Expert knowledge in standard engineering techniques and procedures. Strong knowledge of electrical equipment design, ANSI, and IEEE Standards. Strong computer skills (e.g., Microsoft Office Suite).
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Experience with leading the discipline design for large projects and delegating work tasks to team members. Ability to lead the execution of work and resolve issues in a team environment.
