Role SummaryThe Director of Finance is a hands‑on, in‑office leadership role responsible for managing day‑to‑day financial operations, financial controls, reporting, and compliance. This role executes financial strategy and ensures the firm’s financial systems operate with precision as the organization grows.
Reporting Structure- Reports to:
Chief Operating Officer - Works closely with: CEO, Firm Administrator, Legal Operations
- Oversees:
Accounting, billing, collections, trust accounting, and finance‑related vendors - Partners with:
External CPA and tax advisors
- Oversee daily financial operations including cash flow, budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis.
- Ensure accurate and timely billing and collections across all practice areas.
- Maintain evergreen retainer replenishment processes and monitor compliance.
- Oversee trust accounting and adherence to Colorado and multi‑state regulations.
- Prepare monthly financial statements and leadership reports.
- Build and maintain dashboards tracking collections, AR aging, trust balances, and attorney performance.
- Deliver rolling forecasts to support operational and growth decisions.
- Establish and enforce strong internal financial controls and separation of duties.
- Coordinate internal and external audits.
- Identify and mitigate financial risk as the firm expands.
- Review firm expenses, subscriptions, and vendor contracts.
- Eliminate waste and improve cost discipline.
- Ensure integrity of financial data across accounting and practice management systems.
- Improve workflows to support scale and reduce manual processes.
- 7–10+ years of finance or accounting leadership experience.
- Professional services or law firm experience strongly preferred.
- Experience supporting organizations with $10M–$25M+ in revenue.
- Strong knowledge of law firm billing, trust accounting, and collections.
- Highly accountable, detail‑oriented, and execution‑focused.
- Ability to work in‑office Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM–5:00 PM.
Base Salary range $120,000–$150,000 annual.
Performance Bonus:
Tied to collections performance, cash flow stability, and operational KPIs.
