The Pharmacy Technician supports both clinical and operational functions within the pharmacy, performing technical, clerical, and inventory-related tasks that ensure medications are prepared, labeled, and dispensed safely. This role is a key contributor to quality assurance efforts and overall workflow efficiency.
Key Responsibilities
- Partner with clinical and customer-facing teams to coordinate new patient referrals and admissions.
- Review and document patient, medication, and condition-specific details to identify potential issues, escalating concerns to a clinician when appropriate.
- Respond to questions from patients, family members, and healthcare providers, directing clinical inquiries to a pharmacist or nurse as needed.
- Maintain accurate and comprehensive documentation of all patient interactions, clinical activities, and communication in the pharmacy system.
- Assist in scheduling and preparing IV therapies and home medical equipment orders under pharmacist supervision.
- Collaborate closely with Pharmacists, Nurses, Technicians, and Patient Care Coordinators to ensure seamless patient care.
- Prepare labels, prescriptions, compounding worksheets, and maintain batch records, including lot numbers and expiration dates.
- Generate delivery or pickup slips; pull medications, supplies, and equipment for patient orders.
- Gather supply inventory updates directly from patients and update the Pharmacist and patient record accordingly.
- Participate in departmental meetings, quality improvement initiatives, and internal process updates.
- Follow all regulatory guidelines related to infusion pharmacy operations, safety standards, and equipment handling.
- Perform additional duties to support daily pharmacy operations as needed.
Preferred Qualifications
- Completion of an accredited pharmacy technician training program; IV certification is a plus.
- Active state pharmacy technician registration and national certification as required.
- 1–3 years of pharmacy experience (infusion, specialty, retail, or related setting).
- Strong understanding of basic pharmacy terminology, calculations, medication handling, and aseptic technique.
- Ability to work scheduled on-call rotations, including evenings or weekends when required.
- Solid communication and math skills with the ability to read and accurately interpret prescriptions.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently while maintaining accuracy and efficiency in a fast-paced environment.
