Job SummaryThe Electrical Foreman is a skilled leadership position responsible for supervising and coordinating the work of electrical crews on commercial and industrial projects. This role requires advanced knowledge of electrical systems, including strong journeyman-level expertise, and a thorough understanding of the National Electrical Code (NEC). The Electrical Foreman ensures that all installations meet safety standards, project specifications, and quality expectations. Key responsibilities include managing day‑to‑day field operations, collaborating with project managers, subcontractors, and other trades, and mentoring team members.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Lead and manage a team of electricians and apprentices, assigning tasks, setting clear expectations, and ensuring safe and efficient work in accordance with project specifications.
- Train new hires and apprentices, providing ongoing development opportunities to enhance skills and performance.
- Plan and schedule electrical work to meet project deadlines, coordinating with project managers and reviewing blueprints and specifications.
- Conduct regular inspections to ensure compliance with project standards, codes, and regulations.
- Enforce all safety policies and procedures, conduct daily safety meetings, and ensure proper PPE usage to prevent accidents.
- Manage procurement, inventory, and proper use of materials, tools, and equipment.
- Maintain clear communication with project managers, subcontractors, and clients, and coordinate field activities with other trades.
- Troubleshoot on‑site issues related to labor, materials, or technical challenges and implement effective solutions.
- Maintain accurate records of job progress, labor hours, safety incidents, and material usage, and submit required reports.
- Address conflicts among crew members, subcontractors, or external partners, using strong communication and mediation skills.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
- Comprehensive understanding of electrical systems, wiring, circuits, transformers, distribution panels, and control systems.
- Familiarity with national, state, and local electrical codes and regulations.
- Proficiency in reading and interpreting electrical blueprints, schematics, and technical drawings.
- Knowledge of occupational health and safety standards and OSHA regulations.
- Understanding of electrical materials, tools, and equipment and their proper handling.
- Ability to identify and troubleshoot electrical problems, diagnose faults, and implement solutions.
- Basic project management skills, including planning, scheduling, budgeting, and resource allocation.
- Excellent verbal and written communication, interpersonal, customer service, organizational, time‑management, analytical, problem‑solving, supervisory, and leadership skills.
- Ability to prioritize tasks and delegate when appropriate.
- Ability to thrive in a high‑pace, sometimes stressful environment.
- Minimum 3 years managing commercial and industrial construction projects.
- Advanced knowledge of construction and time management.
- Advanced knowledge of NEC Electrical Codes.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, plans, and project specifications.
- OSHA 10 and OSHA 30 preferred.
- NFPA 70E preferred.
- Prolonged periods of standing.
- Ability to walk several miles daily.
- Ability to climb, crawl, bend.
- Use of power tools.
- Ability to dig trenches using hand tools or equipment.
- Must be able to lift up to 75 pounds at times.
- Ability to work in various weather conditions or confined spaces.
Construction environment with high noise levels, moving vehicles and equipment. Includes outdoors and indoors work; climbing ladders, walking and balancing on structural beams.
