HVAC Sheet Metal Apprentice Job Summary
Perform entry level general sheet metal fabrication and installation duties with supervision.
Essential Job Functions
- APPRENTICE 1 (1 year):
Basic math skills; operates duct line including total insulating responsibilities; understands and operates all machinery; understands terminology, preps ductwork for installation; basic hand tools per tool list; develop good housekeeping and safety habits; accurate material checkout from warehouse and labor accounting; attentive to following instructions; document approximately 2,000 hours of employment; perform laborer tasks (sweeping, cleaning, delivering, loading, unloading, hole cutting, etc.);
other duties as assigned. - APPRENTICE 2 (1-2 year):
Read non-complex blueprints; install HVAC systems with minor supervision; set up and operate all job related tools safely; fabricate duct and simple fittings; fundamentals of heating, ventilating and air conditioning; flat solder copper and galvanized joints; waterseal duct joints and OSM joints; fundamental knowledge of fibrous duct installations; help solve installation problems; document approximately 4,000 hours of employment; other duties as assigned. - APPRENTICE 3 (2-3 year):
Do all types of small jobs alone with supervision including add on air conditioning, furnace change-outs, humidifiers, air cleaners; install all types of normal residential, commercial, industrial HVAC systems with supervision; lead a helper; coordinate work with customer and other trades; install outside metal; weld light gauge sheet and lightweight angle iron frames; complete jobs successfully in terms of labor and material budgets;
document approximately 6,000 hours of employment; other duties as assigned. - APPRENTICE 4 (3-4 year):
Application for certification at local jurisdictions as required; know fundamental design and can successfully complete all jobs as per CMS mechanical standards; document 8,000 hours of employment; support total quality effort; identify and respond to the needs of internal and external customers 100% of the time; work within guidelines of safety and employee policy; upon graduation, obtain Denver Journeyman Heating and Ventilating Certificate;
other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Minimum 18 years of age
- High school graduate/GED
- Mechanical aptitude
- Willingness to learn through on the job training and technical school courses
- Reliable transportation to and from work required
Pay/Benefits
$25-$34/hr. depending on skill and experience. Benefits offered (Health, vision, dental, 401k, disability, life insurance).
