General Summary/Responsibilities
The Oncology Infusion Nurse is a registered nurse (RN) who partners with and advocates for patients, families, and significant others to provide physical, emotional, and spiritual support in a safe environment. The RN collaborates with the inter‑professional team to assess and respond to the full impact of cancer on the patient and family, including physical symptoms, functional limitations, psychosocial disruptions, and knowledge needs.
The RN is accountable for compliance with the Ohio Nurse Practice Act, Nursing Code of Ethics, and applicable regulatory standards.
Key responsibilities include administering chemotherapy, immunotherapy, IV therapy, subcutaneous and intramuscular injections; managing adverse events (extravasation, infiltration, spill); providing health promotion, disease prevention, and education; and participating in quality assessment, practice evaluation, and interdisciplinary collaboration.
Location & ShiftsFacility:
Miami Valley Hospital South (Centerville, OH).
Shifts:
7:00 AM‑4:30 PM, 7:30 AM‑5:00 PM, 8:00 AM‑5:30 PM, 8:30 AM‑6:00 PM.
- Education – Minimum Associate Degree in Nursing; BSN preferred.
- Licensure & Certification – Valid Ohio RN license; current CPR certification at hire; ONS Fundamentals of Chemotherapy and Immunotherapy Certificate (within 30 days); ONS/ONCC Chemotherapy Immunotherapy Certificate (within 9 months); OCN certification (within 1 year after eligibility); ACLS required within 6 months.
- Experience – 1–3 years of job‑related experience; prior experience in peripheral venipuncture, vascular access, and IV therapy preferred.
- Preferred Skills – Expertise in peripheral venipuncture, assessment of vascular access, and IV therapy; knowledge of ONS guidelines for adverse events.
