Job Description

This role leads, manages, and mentors store associates who face barriers to employment. The Supervisor, Retail Operations develops store associates to find meaningful employment and coordinates vocational rehabilitation counseling with Development Counseling Services. Success is measured by outplacement, staffing, and operational excellence.

Responsibilities
  • Lead and supervise 12–25 store associates with diverse barriers to employment.
  • Schedule and coordinate associate care plans with Development Counseling Services.
  • Implement behavior management techniques, including de‐escalation strategies.
  • Manage the associate training program, covering schedule, time management, and soft skills.
  • Lead the team in retail sales, merchandising, complex warehouse operations, and donation center logistics.
  • Balance advanced skills training with day‐to‐day store operations.
  • Align and coordinate vocational plans with Development Counseling Services.
  • Maintain a confidential database of current work and productivity behaviors.
Ready‐For‐Work Program
  • Instruct, monitor, and provide frequent feedback on time and attendance, communication, leadership, honesty, reliability, and following instructions.
  • Provide weekly assessments of work behaviors and quarterly evaluations.
  • Drive improvement using data from observations.
  • Contribute to individual development plans for each associate.
  • Model all Ready‐For‐Work program work behaviors (attendance, punctuality, task focus, quality, pace).
Store Operations
  • Supervise merchandising, inventory, and donation processing.
  • Handle complex customer requests regarding policies, pricing, and donations.
  • Manage donation center logistics: supplies, product flow, staffing, heavy equipment, and customer service.
  • Make immediate judgments on hazardous donations based on OSHA guidelines and store policies.
  • Oversee safety protocols and incident responses.
  • Manage POS operations, including cash handling, welfare vouchers, and deposit processing.
  • Supervise cashiers to ensure internal control compliance.
  • Partner with management to maintain store standards.
People Management Responsibilities
  • Regularly supervise store associates’ work.
  • Provide recommendations for hiring, firing, advancement, promotion, or status changes of supervised employees.
Qualifications Education
  • Bachelor’s degree in business, education, social work, or related field (or equivalent education and experience).
Experience
  • Three years in training, education, or business settings, including retail, warehouse, or customer service operations.
  • Demonstrated experience in teaching, training, and/or supervision.
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds, walk, stand for long periods, and bend, twist, or climb as needed.
  • Strong customer service experience; able to interface with diverse demographics.

  • Lead supervisory team of associates with employment barriers.

  • Prioritizing associate vocational plans with Development Counseling Services.
  • Negotiating with multiple management layers for mentoring and customer service improvement.
