Can you turn complex engineering concepts into robust, high-integrity mechanical designs?
We are recruiting for a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to develop precision components, complex mechanisms and mechanical sub-systems for demanding engineering applications.
You will take designs from concept through to detailed CAD, prototyping, testing and design proving, working alongside multidisciplinary engineering teams to deliver solutions that meet demanding technical, safety and performance requirements.
What you will be doing
- Developing innovative mechanical designs from requirements and technical specifications.
- Producing complex parametric designs using CREO CAD.
- Carrying out supporting structural and kinematic calculations.
- Designing components, mechanisms and linkages for challenging operating environments.
- Working with Design Authorities, technical specialists and manufacturing teams.
- Producing engineering drawings, technical documentation and design review packs.
- Supporting prototype manufacture, physical testing and design verification.
- Ensuring designs meet relevant engineering standards and safety requirements.
What you will need
- Proven experience designing and developing mechanical components and sub-systems.
- Practical experience using CREO Parametric CAD and the Windchill PDM system.
- Knowledge of complex mechanisms, materials, surface treatments and finishing technologies.
- Experience specifying electrical interfaces for mechanical sub-systems and components.
- Ability to undertake basic structural and kinematic calculations.
- Strong technical documentation, problem-solving and communication skills.
- Experience in defence, aerospace or space engineering would be a significant advantage.

Security: Due to the nature of the work, this role is primarily site-based in Ampthill and candidates must be eligible to obtain DV Security Clearance, with SC to start, whilst going through the DV process. For this you will need to be a full British Citizen. Dual nationality will not be eligible.
