Position: Finance trustee for growth and oversight - Volunteer

Overview

We’re seeking a finance trustee to support The How2

Hub, a fully inclusive platform connecting education to employment. You will guide financial oversight, strengthen sustainability, and help scale early career experiences for young people from Year 6 onwards.

This role will provide the financial clarity and structure needed to move from early‑stage delivery into a stable and scalable model. The How2

Hub already has active collaborations with schools, colleges and universities, delivering real‑world experiences for young people. The key challenge is ensuring that this activity is supported by robust financial planning as it grows.

By strengthening financial oversight, the trustee will enable the board to make informed decisions about how and where to scale. This includes aligning funding with delivery, improving visibility of costs, and ensuring that resources are directed towards the areas of greatest impact. As a result, the organisation can move forward with greater confidence and consistency.

The role will also help establish a sustainable financial framework at an early stage, shaping how future partnerships and programmes are developed, ensuring that growth is manageable and aligned with long‑term impact rather than short‑term opportunity. It will increase confidence among funders, partners and stakeholders by demonstrating clear financial governance.

Ultimately, the impact of this role will be seen in the organisation’s ability to expand access. Strong financial foundations will enable more schools to engage, more employers to participate and more young people to benefit from early, meaningful exposure to the world of work.

What Will You Be Doing?

The trustee board is currently being established and is bringing together experience from education, employer engagement and funding. We are working in collaboration with schools through the Monday Club pilot, alongside partnerships with colleges and universities delivering real‑world projects, including a live platform build and student‑led employer films. This has created strong early traction, but also a clear need for financial structure and oversight as activity grows.

Over the next 12–24 months, you will help make key decisions about how delivery scales, how partnerships are supported and how funding is translated into consistent, sustainable activity. You will take a lead role in shaping this, overseeing financial planning and forecasting, supporting the development of budgets linked to delivery activity and helping the board understand the financial implications of strategic decisions.

There is scope for you to take responsibility for financial oversight across the board, including supporting the development of financial reporting and, if appropriate, leading a small finance‑focused sub‑group as the organisation grows.

A key part of the role will be helping translate early‑stage activity into a more structured financial model. This includes bringing clarity to how partnerships, pilots and future rollout can be supported in a sustainable way, without losing the flexibility that has enabled early progress.

What Are We Looking For?

We are seeking a trustee with strong financial experience who can bring clarity, structure and confidence to the organisation as it moves from early‑stage delivery into a more scalable model.

The ideal candidate will have experience in financial management, budgeting and forecasting, with the ability to interpret financial information and support strategic decision‑making. This may come from a background in accountancy, finance leadership, or managing finances within a growing organisation, charity or education‑related setting.

We are particularly interested in someone who can apply financial thinking in a practical way. This includes linking financial planning to delivery activity, helping the board understand the cost of programmes and ensuring that funding and resources are aligned with impact. Experience of working in organisations that have scaled or transitioned from pilot to wider rollout would be valuable.

An understanding of how funding flows through organisations—whether through grants, contracts or…
