CNC Machinist
Pay:
Up to £38hr (Umbrella)
Location:
Ampthill, Bedfordshire
Contract Length: 9x Months
Working Pattern: 4x Flex (Monday-Thursday)
Hours:
37.5 per week

We are seeking experienced CNC Machinist Specialists to support precision manufacturing within a high‑value engineering and defence environment. The role involves producing R&D, one‑off, and low‑volume production components using advanced multi‑axis CNC milling and turning machines, with a strong focus on quality, safety, and continuous improvement. This position offers meaningful technical work, exposure to complex programmes, and an excellent work‑life balance through a 4‑day working week and flexible arrangements.
Key Responsibilities- Program, set, prove out, and operate multi‑axis CNC machine tools (3‑6 axis)
- Manufacture high‑precision components to engineering drawings and specifications
- Support development and optimisation of machining processes, tooling, and fixtures
- Select and optimise tooling solutions, liaising with tooling suppliers
- Mentor and support team members, including apprentices
- Diagnose and resolve machine and process issues
- Prioritise workload to meet delivery schedules and optimise machine utilisation
- Proven experience in a precision CNC machining environment
- Strong CNC milling experience (essential)
- CNC turning experience (highly desirable)
- Programming capability using Fanuc, Siemens, and Heidenhain controls
- Working knowledge of CAD/CAM software (e.g. EdgeCAM, Master
CAM, Fusion 360) - Experience with 3‑5 axis machining
- Strong understanding of inspection techniques and precision measurement
