Overview
Howden is a global insurance group with employee ownership at its heart. The role supports the External Reporting team in Group consolidation to meet internal and external reporting requirements, including monthly management accounts, Group quarterly and annual accounts, lender reporting, and other ad-hoc reporting. This is a 12-month fixed-term contract (FTC). The role follows a hybrid pattern, with an expectation to be on site 2–3 days per week.
The role reports to the Head of External Reporting.
- Assist on Group consolidation to support internal and external reporting requirements.
- Produce IFRS consolidated results for monthly management accounts and quarterly interim financial statements for external partners.
- Prepare and post consolidation journals, including IA amortisation, deferred tax, and intercompany eliminations.
- Perform analytical review of consolidated P&L and balance sheet movements versus prior month and budget; escalate unexplained items.
- Complete balance sheet reconciliations, resolve differences, and engage with divisions on quality improvements.
- Assess revenue recognition under IFRS 15 and support local teams in transitioning new acquisitions.
- Contribute to the production of Group accounting papers, including revenue recognition under IFRS 15 for non-IFRS reporters.
- Assist with significant M&A accounting activity and onboarding of new acquisitions to the group.
- Assist with the production of annual statutory accounts and detailed note workings.
- Support throughout year-end audit and help resolve auditor queries.
- Coordinate with business partners efficiently during the month-end cycle.
- Knowledge of IFRS, UK GAAP and relevant UK law.
- Experience with large multi-currency group consolidations.
- Experience using One Stream or HFM and Unit4, or the ability to learn reporting tools quickly.
- Ability to work under pressure while maintaining quality of deliverables; strong planning and deadline management.
- Professional skepticism and a drive for high-quality work.
- Advanced MS Excel (Index Match and VLOOKUP), data manipulation and analysis.
- Able to learn quickly and adapt to a evolving business environment and Group structure.
- Graduate-level education or equivalent; qualified accountant with at least 5–7 years PQE, ACA/CA (SA) preferred.
