Senior Technical Accounting Manager

Job Description:

About IG Group

IG Group is a FTSE 100 fintech operating across five continents, serving over 1.3m customers and handling billions of dollars in transactions – built on scale, trust, and proof.

We didn’t pivot to innovation; it’s how we’ve always operated. We tackle genuinely complex problems with the technology and resources to solve them, offering rare scope in established businesses.

About the Role

IG’s rapid growth brings new demands to the Group’s accounting environment. The Senior Technical Accounting Manager will act as the Group’s technical accounting authority, ensuring the control environment keeps pace with the business while maintaining proactive alignment to evolving accounting standards.

About the Team

This role reports directly to the Head of Group Reporting. The team owns the technical integrity of IG’s financial reporting, working closely with Financial Operations, Financial Control, and external auditors to keep the Group’s accounting positions robust, well‑documented and consistently applied across all subsidiaries.

Key Responsibilities
  • Technical Accounting & Advisory
    • Act as the primary point of contact for complex accounting queries across the Group, providing expert advice and reviewing positions formed by the business and local financial controllers.
    • Undertake ad‑hoc technical analysis, delving into underlying data to reach robust conclusions.
    • Partner with business teams to assess the accounting implications of new products and non‑standard transactions before launch.
    • Translate complex technical standards into clear, actionable advice for non‑technical stakeholders across the business.
  • Financial Reporting & External Audit
    • Technical review of financial statements across the Group, including year‑end and half‑year reporting, focusing on accounting treatments and disclosures.
    • Input into and write sections of Audit Committee papers on key accounting judgments and estimates.
    • Lead dialogue with external auditors on complex and judgmental areas, preparing papers that justify the Group’s reported position.
  • Accounting Policy & Standards
    • Develop and maintain the Group’s accounting policies and policy manual as a single source of truth, ensuring consistency across subsidiaries.
    • Track upcoming standards and amendments, including IASB exposure drafts, and lead the Group’s adoption of confirmed changes, including impact assessments and implementation plans.
    • Lead and own training across the Group, covering new standards and refreshers on existing topics.
  • Cross‑Group Collaboration
    • Build and maintain effective working relationships with Financial Operations, Financial Control, external auditors and advisors.
    • Work with local financial controllers across subsidiaries to understand local GAAP to UK‑IAS differences and assess consolidation impact.
    • Collaborate with Financial Operations and Financial Control to implement new processes and products end‑to‑end, avoiding hand‑off that stalls progress.
Role Requirements
  • Fully qualified ACA/ACCA accountant, with 3+ years' post‑qualification experience in accounting policy, technical accounting, or Big 4 accounting advisory.
  • Strong, hands‑on knowledge of UK‑IAS, particularly specialized, judgmental areas.
  • Comfortable diving into detailed underlying data, rather than purely theoretical analysis.
  • Experience reviewing financial statements from a technical accounting perspective, focusing on the appropriateness of judgments and disclosures.
  • Proven ability to lead technical accounting matters and align senior leaders and cross‑functional teams to the relevant standard.
  • Strong communication skills, able to translate technical standards into clear, practical guidance for non‑finance stakeholders.
  • Experience seeing technical accounting conclusions through to practical implementation, not only theoretical stages.
Desirable
  • Proven track record within banking, CFD, spread betting or broader financial services, or in a Big 4 banking/financial services advisory practice.
  • Demonstrated collaborative teamwork across functions and leveraging external skill sets.
  • Adaptability and resilience in a fast‑paced, tech‑led, agile environment.
