Responsibilities
Please note as per Lidl internal structures, your job title internally will be Officer. What you'll do:
Independently determine HS codes and import controls for food and non‑food items and ensure full compliance with UK customs laws. Work closely with the Audit Team from end‑to‑end to validate classification accuracy, mitigate risks, and keep the business fully compliant with all requirements. Perform regular maintenance and updates within key systems such as SAP‑GTS, including monthly uploads and application of tariff updates.
Resolve queries from internal and external stakeholders and escalating critical issues to ensure accurate customs declarations and timely deliveries. Investigate trade agreements, import requirements, and prohibitions/restrictions related to classified products, while supporting the Buying and International teams in determining whether products meet qualifying criteria. Create process flow charts and documented procedures for team members and business stakeholders. Provide regular, comprehensive reports to management regarding team workload, ticket volumes, corrective actions and system‑to‑system transfer status to ensure operational transparency.
Prior experience in determining customs tariffs is essential. Experience with customs classification using the UK Trade Tariff and practical knowledge of the General Rules of Interpretation (GIR) and Explanatory Notes. A good working knowledge of import controls and UK/EU customs regulations, including determining HS codes. Strong communication skills to facilitate decision‑making based on knowledge of the UK Trade Tariff. Level 3+ Certificate in Customs Compliance, or other relevant customs and trade certifications and diplomas, is desirable.
A logical mindset and enthusiasm for problem‑solving. Proficient working knowledge of Excel/Google Sheets. Teamwork and collaboration skills. Excellent organisational skills with the ability to take initiative. A high degree of focus and accuracy with a keen eye for detail. German language skills are advantageous but not essential.
