We are looking for an economist to join the CBI's Economic Intelligence team to help shape

our views on UK and international macroeconomic trends, contribute to the delivery of

economic publications and business surveys, and support the development of the CBI's policy positions. The role will be located at our London offices in Cannon Place, in accordance with the CBI's hybrid working policy. This is a wide-ranging role, with no one day the same! Some examples of typical tasks are:

• Conducting analysis of macroeconomic data and the CBI's business surveys, including contributing to media commentary
• Drafting written analysis of recent economic developments and the outlook for the UK economy for senior management and CBI members
• Supporting the wider analytical work of the Economic Intelligence team and the Economics directorate, including engagement with external stakeholders and members
• Supporting analytical work to inform the CBI's policy positions and external commentary.

The balance of duties will depend on the experience and seniority of the successful candidate, and we offer ample scope and flexibility for in-role growth and development. As part of this, you will be expected to gradually take on more responsibility and independent work as your skill set develops over time.

You will be working alongside other economists, survey specialists, policy advisors, and commercial colleagues, both within the CBI's economics directorate and across the organisation. This is a great opportunity for a budding economist to work on a range of high profile issues and help to steer economic debates, while working within a friendly and motivated team.

This role sits within payband 6, with a salary ranging from £35,000 to £40,000 depending on experience.

• Leading on the analysis and interpretation of one or more of the CBI's business surveys
• Contributing to the CBI's macroeconomic publications for its member companies: including the bi-annual economic forecast and other regular commentary on the UK economy
• Monitoring and producing commentary on UK economic data releases for CBI senior management and member companies
• Supporting engagement with external stakeholders, including government, the Bank of England, and other policymakers
• Undertaking economic analysis to help develop the CBI's policy positions and external commentary on policy issues
• Supporting the communication of the CBI's economic analysis through social media and other external channels
• Providing analytical support for the wider economics directorate, including around data analysis, research, briefings, development of our business surveys, etc.

• Degree or higher in an economics discipline or a related field
• Excellent working knowledge of Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, Word, and Outlook
• Demonstrable knowledge of macroeconomic theory and data, ability to identify and interpret key trends, and to apply economic principles to analytical work
• Ability to work with a range of stakeholders within the CBI
• Ability to effectively communicate economic developments to a business audience.

• Experience engaging with senior business leaders, government officials, and the media
• Experience with one or more econometric packages
• Ability to access and manipulate data on Macrobond
• Experience using one or more AI tools for economic analysis and/or professional work

• Excellent communication skills (written and oral)
• The ability to convey complex economic concepts and developments to non-experts
  
  Able to carry out accurate data analysis, and put together well-researched and clearly written economic reports
• Strong organisation and time management skills - being able to deliver outputs on time, manage multiple tasks, and demonstrate agility between different projects/priorities
• Demonstrating the ability to think logically and to apply economic principles to analytical work or in response to a policy problem
• Ability to work effectively as part of a team
