DescriptionThe Small Business Unit, leads London & Partners work to support entrepreneurs to thrive. There are 450,000 businesses in London employing fewer than 10 people. These businesses build and strengthen local communities; bring investment to town centres; contribute to thriving high streets; and provide access to stable, local jobs. They are key to maintaining the dynamism and inclusivity of London's economy.
They also create opportunities for local residents to get ahead economically. In particular, they create wealth-building opportunities for residents living in communities of high deprivation.
The Small Business Unit is responsible for delivering Grow London Local (GLL) providing a 'single front door' to business support, matching entrepreneurs and business owners to the help they need to grow. In addition, the Small Business delivers the Made Smarter Digital Adoption Manufacturing programme and will be also delivering the new AI programme starting in Nov 2026.
Purpose of roleWorking closely with the Head of Small Business Service delivery and the rest of the directorate, you will contribute to the delivery of the team's objectives and outcomes through effective support of the small business programme delivery.
- Support the Head of Small Business
- Service delivery with ongoing monitoring, verification, recording, analysis and reporting of:
- Progress against milestones, financial, outputs and outcome targets, ensuring delivery and quality concerns are raised and tackled promptly;
- Risks and issues, to ensure awareness and understanding of these and implementation of appropriate and timely mitigations.
- Provide all aspects of financial support to the team in creating and maintaining budget spreadsheets, raising and processing purchase orders and invoices in compliance with L&P procedures, and monitoring expenditure and providing information and reports
- To produce regular management reports for various internal/external stakeholders as required, highlighting any opportunities and issues which arise. Enter information into databases and assist in compiling data and producing reports about the overall programme
- To coordinate and track the receipt and timely payment of invoices with external partners.
- Support the team in tracking project performance against targets, co-ordinating and chasing the progress of documents, reports for the programme
- Liaise with boroughs and other organisations to help maintain excellent working relationships; interact on daily basis with wide range of stakeholders at various levels, decide on appropriate responses to queries and respond when necessary on behalf of the team
- Support on all aspect of project governance, arrange the different project meetings and produce meeting documentation such as agendas; minutes and presentations; support the team in producing and maintaining project documentation such as risk and issue logs, action lists and project plans, as directed.
- Carry out any other administrative tasks for the project as required, including booking rooms and refreshments, making travel arrangements and handle day to day enquires and supporting the booking system
