Astute's Nuclear Team are recruiting an Associate or Associate Director for Risk Management on a permanent basis.

This is a senior risk management opportunity for an experienced project and programme risk professional with extensive experience in quantitative risk analysis, QSRA and QCRA modelling. The successful candidate will join a growing risk team, leading commissions and interventions for major clients and nationally significant projects across a range of sectors.

You will not be spending the majority of your time carrying out modelling. Instead, you will use your technical understanding, analytical experience and wider project background to interpret risk, challenge assumptions and provide senior leaders with clear, commercially considered advice on risk, issues and change.

The role would suit an experienced Risk Manager, Risk Consultant, Project Controls professional or Senior Risk Specialist who can hit the ground running and take a leadership role within major project environments.

Responsibilities and duties of the Associate / Associate Director
- Risk Management role
  • Lead risk management commissions and interventions for major clients, programmes and nationally significant projects.
  • Act as a senior point of contact and trusted adviser for clients on project and organisational risk management.
  • Undertake and oversee quantitative cost and schedule risk analysis, including QSRA and QCRA modelling, across healthy and distressed projects and throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Use quantitative analysis, project experience and professional judgement to identify the implications of risk, uncertainty, issues and change.
  • Provide senior leaders with clear, practical advice to support considered decisions around project strategy, risk exposure and organisational approach.
  • Lead risk management activities within project controls environments and PMOs, helping clients improve the maturity and effectiveness of their risk management processes.
  • Challenge assumptions, identify emerging risks and provide constructive recommendations where projects or programmes require intervention.
  • Lead and develop risk professionals, supporting knowledge sharing, coaching and the growth of capability across the wider business.
  • Develop and deliver training and guidance across risk management, project management, value management and related disciplines.
  • Contribute to business development, identifying opportunities to develop new risk services, tools and approaches across existing and emerging sectors.
  • Collaborate with teams across sustainability, life cycle costing, healthcare, net zero and other specialist disciplines to deliver integrated client solutions.
  • Develop relationships with clients and stakeholders locally and internationally, supporting the continued growth of the risk management service.
Professional and Personal skills

The Associate / Associate Director
- Risk Management role would suit someone who has:

  • Extensive experience working within project, programme or major infrastructure environments, ideally across complex construction or capital projects.
  • Strong practical experience of quantitative cost and schedule risk analysis, including QSRA and QCRA modelling.
  • The ability to understand and interpret risk models and outputs, with sufficient technical expertise to challenge assumptions and provide informed recommendations.
  • A proven ability to advise senior stakeholders and project leadership teams on risk, issues, change and project strategy.
  • Experience working across the full project lifecycle, including both healthy and distressed projects.
  • Strong leadership capabilities, with experience developing people, leading teams or taking responsibility for risk work streams and commissions.
  • Experience with in sectors such as infrastructure, rail, nuclear, healthcare, hospitals, life sciences, pharmaceuticals, heritage or major construction would be beneficial.
  • Construction or major capital project experience is particularly desirable.
  • A relevant professional qualification such as APM, IRM, PMI, RICS or an appropriate risk management qualification would be advantageous.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills, with the confidence to challenge senior stakeholders constructively.
