Resident Director; Maternity Cover

Sonia Friedman Productions is seeking applications for a full-time experienced, Resident Director (Maternity Cover) to work on the London production of PADDINGTON THE MUSICAL.

(Music and Lyrics by Tom Fletcher, Book by Jessica Swale. Based on 'A Bear Called Paddington' written by Michael Bond and by Special Arrangement with STUDIOCANAL) at the Savoy Theatre in London’s West End - running in the West End since November 2025.

Your duties and responsibilities will be those normally expected of a Resident Director on a first-class West End production.

The Resident Director will work with the Directors and Associate Director in delivering the creative vision of the production, as well as providing administrative support. Your responsibilities will include but will not be limited to leading on any ad hoc rehearsals, show watching an understudy’s first performance on stage; casting and rehearsing new children for the production as required; watching and noting the show at least four times per week;

attending conferences, discussions, auditions, rehearsals and dress rehearsals as required by the Production on reasonable notice; attending and facilitating post-show question and answer sessions in the absence of the Director and any other tasks that the Producer or the Director may reasonably request.

You will provide a strong support to the Associate Director, liaising between many different departments, so it is important you have good communication skills.

Contract Type:
Fixed term maternity cover for up to nine months in the first instance, or until the employee returns from maternity leave (subject to eight weeks’ notice), or for the run of the Production, whichever shall be the shorter, subject to two weeks’ notice by the Producers.
