Our Digital Business Solutions (DBS) UX team works across a broad portfolio of research and editorial products, combining deep user empathy with rigorous design craft to build tools that genuinely serve the people who use them.

The ERMS team is a cross-functional group of product, engineering and UX professionals based across the UK, Amsterdam, and India, and works closely with editorial stakeholders across Elsevier’s journal portfolio.

As the Senior UX Designer you will be working on a number of key product areas; the main focus will be on the Editor Relationship Management System and its related Editor Portal, which are hosted on Salesforce and Salesforce Experience Cloud. You will own the design end-to-end, manage complex UX challenges, and deliver UI specifications. You will be an embedded member of the project team, collaborating closely with the Product Manager and development team throughout design, refinement, and build.

You will also be supported by the wider DBS UX design team, who will help you onboard and provide design feedback throughout the engagement. We’re looking for an exceptional designer who enjoys solving complex problems and creating elegant user experiences.

• Collaborate closely with the entire project team — Product, Engineering, and stakeholders — to develop a comprehensive understanding of the project scope, infrastructure, and user needs.
• Review existing provision and develop new consolidated information architecture and flows based on core user tasks; user testing and iterating with regular user feedback.
• Understand and map current editorial workflows, identify pain points, and design solutions that improve usability and support smoother workflow transitions.
• Create design thinking and user understanding documents that demonstrate how existing functionality will be extended and mapped to meet user needs — transforming initial concepts into ready-to-ship features.
• Produce UX design and information architecture that meet the needs of the key user groups, working within the Elsevier design system.
• Build prototypes and define key user flows for testing and feedback, managing fast iterations based on regular user input.
• Define the portal’s look and feel using Elsevier design libraries and existing patterns, creating new components and patterns where needed.
• Develop a strategy for migrating existing workflows to the new system as part of a continuous delivery approach.
• Measure user feedback post-launch and work with the Product Manager to scope and plan for future phases.
