Architect / Sr. Architect, Engineering Design & Technologists
Provide architectural design leadership across new build and refurbishment projects, coordinating multidisciplinary teams to meet client requirements, regulatory standards, and organisational processes. Ensure successful project delivery from inception to handover on time, within scope, and within budget. Operate effectively in both UK and international environments, delivering inclusive, sustainable, and safe design solutions. Where required, fulfil duties as the Construction Design and Management (CDM) Principal Designer and Building Regulations Principal Designer.
Key Responsibilities Scope and ObjectivesProvide architectural design leadership across new build and refurbishment projects, coordinating multidisciplinary teams to meet client requirements, regulatory standards, and organisational processes. Ensure successful project delivery from inception to handover on time, within scope, and within budget. Operate effectively in both UK and international environments, delivering inclusive, sustainable, and safe design solutions. Where required, fulfil duties as the CDM Principal Designer and Building Regulations Principal Designer.
DesignLeadership & Project Delivery
- Act as Lead Designer (with support from peers and the Team Leader), coordinating the design process across disciplines and supporting Project Managers with programme planning.
- Deliver projects across workplace, residential, and light industrial sectors, ranging from £250k to £15m, including both new builds and refurbishments.
- Produce coordinated architectural designs, drawings, and specifications through all RIBA Stages, using Revit for technical documentation, NBS for specifications, and InDesign for stage reports.
- Ensure all drawings and specifications are appropriate for the relevant RIBA Stage and compliant with Planning, Building Control, local legislation, and client policies.
- Maintain accurate project records and monitor forecasted versus actual hours.
- Work with customers and Project Directors to shape briefs that accommodate diverse, complex, and evolving requirements.
- Engage with senior stakeholders, including Ambassadors, High Commissioners, and Overseas Security Advisors.
- Translate detailed briefs into adaptable, context‑appropriate designs for international sites.
- Prepare and deliver presentations, reports, and project updates, ensuring clear documentation of design changes.
- Support the Architecture Team Leader in preparing scopes of work and fee proposals.
- Work with Project Managers to identify and commission Pre‑Construction Information and survey requirements for each RIBA Stage, contributing to survey briefs and reviewing outputs.
- Peer review colleagues' deliverables and ensure all outputs meet quality, scope, and time requirements.
- Undertake international travel for site assessments (accessibility needs supported); typical trips last 2-5 days.
- Act as CDM Principal Designer and BSA Principal Designer when required.
