Locum Consultant Neuroradiologist

Radiology Services is seeking to appoint a new full time (10 PA) Locum Consultant Neuroradiologist for a 12‑month post to fill temporary vacancies and meet increasing demand for our services. We require someone who can start immediately.

Main duties of the job

The post will be based at Guy's and St. Thomas' but may require working at any other Trust locations on an ongoing or temporary basis.

We would like to appoint a (10PA) Consultant Radiologist (9 DCC / 1 SPA) with subspecialist Neuroradiology experience. The post holder will be involved in the full range of neuroradiology imaging, including MRI brain, spine and neurovascular reporting for both acute and outpatient settings. Specialised reporting and MDM commitments may be required depending on the applicant skill set and service need.

Job responsibilities

Guy's and St Thomas provide specialist Neuroradiology services for Neurofibromatosis type 1 & 2, sickle cell disease, neuro‑ophthalmology, infectious diseases and neuro‑oncology stereotactic radiosurgical intervention (SRS). The case mix is diverse, promoting interdisciplinary collaboration.

There is also the opportunity for home reporting sessions. St Thomas hospital hosts Evelina London Children's Hospital. Candidates may be required to report paediatric neuroradiology studies; prior paediatric experience desirable but not essential.

Person Specification Professional Qualifications
  • Eligible for full UK GMC registration and a Licence to Practice
  • On GMC Specialist Register or within six months of attaining CCT.
  • FRCR or equivalent
Clinical Experience & Skills
  • Completion of specialist radiology training programme; subspecialty training in Neuroradiology; independent performance and reporting of general CT< MRI and X-ray imaging.
  • Experience in participating and leading multidisciplinary meetings
  • Experience of Neuroradiology.
  • Experience of Independent MDM work
Audit Management and IT
  • Understand the role of clinical governance and audit in a successful department.
  • Management and IT skills.
  • Understanding of principles of audit.
  • Specific audits in Neuroradiology.
Research, Teaching skill & experience
  • Understand the importance of research and its role in imaging.
  • Experience of teaching and training undergraduates, postgraduates and junior medical staff.
  • Track record of published research in peer reviewed publications.
  • Innovative and enthusiastic approach to imaging research
  • Excellent leadership skills and ability to motivate a team.
  • Communication;
    Ability to communicate with clarity and intelligently in written and spoken English; ability to build rapport, listen, persuade/ negotiate.
