Overview
The successful candidate will be an experienced and collaborative Upper GI and General Surgeon committed to high-quality patient care and aligned with UCLH values of safety, kindness, teamwork and continuous improvement. They will contribute to specialist UGI cancer care, benign UGI pathways and general surgery activity, supporting the Trust's objectives to improve waiting times and deliver an excellent patient experience.

- Support the Trust’s objectives to improve waiting times and deliver an excellent patient experience.
- Engage in clinical audit, governance and undergraduate/postgraduate teaching.
- Supervise junior staff and participate in governance, audit, education and service development.
- Maintain professionalism, values, equality, diversity & inclusion, safeguarding and sustainability responsibilities.
- Full GMC registration and on (or within six months of entry to) the GMC Specialist Register in General Surgery.
- JAG accreditation.
- Strong understanding of NHS clinical governance, quality standards and safe service delivery.
- Comprehensive training in UGI and General Surgery, demonstrating competence in benign and cancer cases and general surgical emergencies.
- Proficiency in open and laparoscopic UGI procedures and core general surgical operations, with the ability to manage emergency presentations confidently.
- Experience in clinical audit, governance, teaching, and leadership in a UGI MDT or tertiary cancer setting.
- Desirable: MD/PhD and evidence of research activity; experience in complex benign UGI surgery and advanced laparoscopic techniques.
- Integrity, reliability and commitment to high clinical standards.
- Active participation in governance, audit, education and supervision of junior staff.

- Willingness to engage with management, contribute to service improvement and support the research culture of UCLH.
£109,725 to £145,478 per annum plus London weighting (on-call Cat A 5%).
