Overview
An opportunity has arisen for a specialist school nurse to help improve the School Nursing Support that we offer to the H3 Federation schools (Harmood School and Heath School);
Gloucester House; and Robson House. These units provide education for the following groups of children who are at risk of not achieving positive outcomes:
- children and young people with special educational needs
- children and young people with emotional, behavioural and social difficulties who are struggling or who have been excluded from mainstream schools

Main duties of the jobYou will be supported by a skill mix team of school nursing professionals to deliver the ‘Healthy Child Programme From 5-19 years old (DOH 2009)’. The post holder will work in partnership with professionals from multiple agencies to meet the health needs of this specific population of children and young people, together with their families and the wider community where this is relevant.
You will be responsible for the coordination of the health needs of any Camden children who are under a Child Protection plan who are not currently attending a Local Authority maintained school.
The nurse we are recruiting will have sufficient post registration experience in a children’s/paediatric setting to allow effective multi agency working in settings like the H3 Federation schools and Robson House.

Person specificationEducation And Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Evidence of CPD in appropriate field
- Specialist Community Public Health (SCPHN) qualification
- RGN/RN, RCN / RMN
Desirable criteria
- Specialist Sexual Health or Substance Misuse Training.
Previous Experience
Essential criteria
- Sufficient post registration experience in a children’s/paediatric setting to allow effective multi agency working in PRU settings.
- Working with diverse communities
- Significant experience of working with children with social, emotional and behavioural difficulties
- Experience of supporting children with complex needs such as child protection and mental/emotional health.
- Experience of working in multi agency/integrated teams
Desirable criteria
- Experience of work within a Pupil Referral Unit
- Mentorship / Teaching or Preceptorship for students or newly qualified staff.
Skills and Knowledge
Essential criteria
- Excellent written and verbal communications, including ability to communicate with a diversity of people
- IT Literacy
- Knowledge of current Public Health Outcome Framework
- Knowledge of children’s special needs e.g. emotional health, educational support etc
- Equalities and Valuing Diversity
- Quality Monitoring including audit, risk management and indicators of effective practice
