Introduction

The Aga Khan University’s Institute for the Study of Muslim Civilisations (AKU-ISMC) in London is seeking to appoint a Persian Language Instructor to support delivery of its MA in Muslim Cultures programme.

The successful candidate will teach face-to-face Modern Persian at ab initio and/or post-ab initio levels, using materials agreed with the Language Coordinator. The course will run for approximately 30–32 weeks, with a teaching commitment of 7 hours per week. In addition to teaching, the Instructor will contribute to curriculum design, student assessment, and academic support.

Responsibilities

• Teach Modern Persian at post-beginner and/or intermediate level to MA students of mixed language backgrounds.
• Prepare and update syllabuses, assessments, and teaching materials.
• Maintain course materials on the Virtual Learning Environment (Moodle).
• Monitor student progress, attendance, and prepare reports.
• Design, set, and mark assessments in line with institutional criteria.
• Participate in meetings, evaluation forums, and exam boards where required.
• Advise and support students in their Persian language learning.

Requirements

• Full proficiency in Modern Persian.
• (Post) graduate degree in Persian, applied linguistics, a related field, or equivalent.
• Experience teaching Persian as a foreign language.
• Excellent communication skills, with fluency in English.
• Familiarity with diverse and multicultural student groups.
• Commitment to high-quality teaching and innovative learning methods.
• Applicants must already have the right to work in the UK.
• Teaching or language teaching qualification.
• Experience teaching Persian to mixed groups in a Further Education (FE), Higher Education (HE), or adult learning setting.
