SEN Teaching Assistant – Year 9 (Alternative Provision / PRU)
Westminster, London | Full-Time, Term Time Only | £90–£120 per day
Are you a resilient, compassionate Teaching Assistant who thrives on making a real difference? We’re working with an inclusive Alternative Provision/PRU in the heart of Westminster to recruit a full-time SEN Teaching Assistant to support Year 9 pupils who need structure, understanding, and a champion in their corner.
This is a rewarding, hands-on role in a specialist setting where relationships matter. You’ll be supporting young people with SEMH, behavioural needs, and additional learning needs, helping them re-engage with education in a calm, safe, and supportive environment. Working closely with teachers, the SENCO, and pastoral teams, you’ll play a vital role in both academic progress and emotional regulation.
What you’ll be doing :
• Providing 1:1 and small group support to Year 9 pupils
• Supporting pupils with SEMH, challenging behaviour, and emotional regulation
• Assisting with lesson delivery and differentiated activities
• Using behaviour support and de-escalation strategies
• Promoting positive behaviour, routines, and clear boundaries
• Supporting pupils during transitions, break times, and interventions
• Accurately recording progress, behaviour, and incidents
We’re looking for someone who:
• Has experience with KS3 pupils, ideally in a PRU, AP, SEMH, or behavioural setting
• Is calm, confident, and emotionally intelligent
• Can build strong, trusting relationships with young people
• Communicates well and works effectively as part of a team
• Is committed to safeguarding and pupil wellbeing
Desirable (but not essential):
• Experience with SEMH, ADHD, ASD, or trauma-informed approaches
• Team Teach or similar behaviour management training
• Background in youth work, mentoring, or outreach

Salary dependent on experience and qualifications. Higher rates are reserved for candidates with substantial experience and/or relevant training such a recognised Level 2 or 3 Teaching Assistant qualification (or equivalent). Pay is determined in line with school expectations and Agency Worker Regulations (AWR), where applicable.
