Overview
We are seeking to appoint an inspirational, forward‑thinking and well‑organised Deputy Head Middle School, to join us from 1 September 2026.
Newton Prep is a successful and dynamic school for children between the ages of 3 and 13. Our school is situated at the heart of one of London’s most exciting areas in Nine Elms, conveniently close to Battersea Park and Queenstown Road stations and the new London Underground Northern Line Battersea Power Station. We have high standards and expectations and are interested in education in the fullest sense.
We seek to ensure that our pupils benefit from a proper balance of academic excellence, fun and activity combined with strong pastoral support.
The Deputy Head Middle School is a member of the School’s Senior Leadership Team (SLT) and is responsible for the day‑to‑day running of our Middle School (Years 3‑5) including management of pastoral care, pupil behaviour and administrative matters. The Deputy Head Middle School and Deputy Head Upper School work together on logistical and operational responsibilities across all their year groups, as well as with the Deputy Head Teaching and Learning.
In addition, the role involves being one of two Designated Safeguarding Leads (DSL) and School Attendance Champions for the whole school. The Deputy Head Middle School reports directly to the Head and has line management responsibility for the Heads of Years 3, 4 & 5.

Interview ProcessCandidates will be invited to teach a lesson, carry out an in‑tray exercise and to give a short presentation. During the interview candidates will be given the opportunity to discuss various aspects of the role and the key areas of responsibility outlined in the Job Description. Candidates will also be given a tour of the School and the opportunity to meet with other members of the Senior Leadership Team.
Formal interviews are expected to take place during the weeks commencing Monday 2nd and Monday 9th March. However, the School reserves the right to interview and appoint ahead of the advertised closing date, should an appropriate candidate be found. Therefore, it is advisable to submit applications as early as possible.
