Overview

We are looking for a dedicated and proactive Building Services Technician to join our team at the Stratford Campus. This role will specifically support students undertaking Building services courses at Levels 1-3, working closely with teaching staff to ensure workshop environments are safe, well‑resourced, and ready for high‑quality technical learning. You'll play a key part in helping our students gain the hands‑on skills they need to succeed in industry.

Responsibilities
  • Support the Building services curriculum by preparing and maintaining tools, materials, and equipment.
  • Monitor and report stock levels of specific materials (e.g., pipes, cables, fittings, fixtures) and replenish stock as required.
  • Ensure the workshops are tidy, safe, and fully prepared for practical teaching sessions.
  • Assist tutors during practical sessions as required.
  • Contribute to curriculum delivery by providing technical guidance and workshop support.
  • Promote and support good student behaviour in practical settings.
  • Work collaboratively with the Building services teaching team and attend departmental meetings.
  • Uphold and implement the College's safeguarding, health & safety, and equality policies.
  • Take part in professional development and be willing to train as a first‑aider if not already qualified.
Qualifications
  • A good understanding of English and Maths preferably at grade C/4 or above, or equivalent Functional Skills Level 2.
  • To be qualified to at least Level 2/3 in a vocational discipline or working towards.
  • First Aid qualification or willingness to undertake training.
  • Knowledge of hand & power tools.
  • Understanding of health and safety within a workshop or construction environment.
  • Familiarity with safeguarding principles and the ability to support student welfare.
  • Awareness of Equality, Diversity, British Values, and employability skills.
  • Well‑organised and proactive with excellent attention to detail.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to engage students and support teaching staff.
  • Confident IT skills: use of emails, Word and Excel is desirable.
  • Proactive, well‑motivated, driven and enthusiastic with a can‑do attitude.
