A fantastic school in Central London is looking to appoint a team of graduates for the role of Science Academic Mentor. The position is a 12‑month contract that offers experience in a secondary school before applying for teacher training in September 2027.

We also welcome applications from graduates passionate about working with young people who are not looking to become a teacher. The role is to inspire, motivate and increase attainment and participation in the core subject area of science.

ASPECTS OF JOB ROLE

Some typical responsibilities include:

  • Work with staff to select students for mentoring
  • Discuss the aims of mentoring with pupils
  • Support pupils inside and outside of the classroom
  • Agree and write action plans
  • Occasionally make home visits to talk to parents and offer advice on strategies to address issues
  • liaise with schools, teachers, social workers and educational psychologists and make referrals where appropriate
  • Aide pupils with the transition to secondary education
  • Help pupils increase their confidence and self‑esteem by listening and devising appropriate strategies

The school caters for students across a range of ages and abilities. We are looking for qualified graduates who can work as learning mentors and Graduate Teaching Assistants, focusing on raising attainment, participation, confidence and self‑esteem.

The ideal candidate will be interested in applying for a teaching training program for September 2027 or be a graduate passionate about young people and eager to inspire others. A degree related to science or literacy is highly desirable.
