Graduate English Teaching Assistant required - KS3 & KS4 SEN Support

Location: Hackney, East London

Salary: 100 - 115 per day

Contract Type: Full-Time, Term-Time only

Start Date: ASAP

Are you a recent English graduate looking to gain valuable school-based experience before pursuing a career in teaching, educational psychology, speech and language therapy, or a related field?

We are seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Graduate English Teaching Assistant to support students across Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4 with a range of Special Educational Needs (SEN). This is an excellent opportunity for a graduate who is passionate about literacy, inclusive education, and helping young people achieve their full potential.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide targeted English and literacy support to students with additional learning needs.
  • Assist teachers in delivering engaging and accessible lessons across KS3 and KS4.
  • Support students on a one-to-one basis and in small intervention groups.
  • Help adapt learning materials to meet individual student needs.
  • Encourage student participation, confidence, and independence in the classroom.
  • Monitor and record student progress, providing feedback to teaching staff.
  • Support students with communication, emotional, behavioural, and learning difficulties.
  • Contribute to creating a positive, inclusive, and supportive learning environment.
  • Work collaboratively with teachers, SENCOs, and other support staff.
Essential Skills and Qualities
  • A degree in English, English Literature, English Language, Creative Writing
    , or a related subject.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong literacy and grammar knowledge.
  • A genuine interest in supporting students with Special Educational Needs.
  • Patience, empathy, and resilience.
  • Ability to build positive relationships with students and staff.
  • Strong organisational and time-management skills.
  • A proactive and flexible approach to supporting learning.
Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate will be a graduate with a passion for education and supporting young people with additional needs. Previous experience working with children, young people, or individuals with SEN is desirable but not essential. This role is particularly suited to graduates considering a future career in teaching or educational support.
