Are you an experienced maker with a passion for supporting creative practice? We're looking for a skilled and enthusiastic Technical Instructor (Making) to join our Technical Services team at our White City campus on a part‑time maternity cover contract until August 2027.

This is an exciting opportunity to work in a dynamic, multidisciplinary environment, supporting students, researchers and academic staff to realise ambitious creative projects through expert technical guidance, workshop support and the development of Making facilities.

As Technical Instructor, you will play a key role in the day‑to‑day operation of our Making workshops, with a particular focus on bench‑based making and supporting work in wood and metal. Working closely with the Lead Technical Instructor and Technical Coordinator, you'll help maintain an inspiring, safe and well‑equipped environment that enables experimentation, learning and innovation.

You'll provide practical demonstrations, technical advice and one‑to‑one support, helping users of all experience levels develop their skills and find creative solutions to complex technical challenges. You'll also contribute to the ongoing development of our Making facilities, supporting the introduction of new equipment, creating learning resources and promoting best practice across the workshops.

The role also includes supporting exhibitions, events and installations, maintaining equipment, contributing to risk assessments and ensuring the highest standards of workshop health and safety.

We're looking for someone who combines strong practical making skills with excellent communication and a collaborative approach.

• Practical knowledge and experience of working with a range of materials, including wood, metal and plastics.
• Experience delivering technical instruction, demonstrations and workshop guidance to a diverse range of users.
• A strong understanding of workshop health and safety, including risk assessment and safe working practices.
• Excellent organisational, planning and problem‑solving skills, with the ability to manage a varied workload.
• A proactive, flexible approach and a genuine commitment to supporting learning, teaching and creative practice.
• Excellent interpersonal skills and the confidence to work collaboratively within a busy technical team.

Experience of creating online learning materials or digital technical resources would be an advantage, but is not essential.
