An Associate Tutor working with people who have learning, physical, or mental health disabilities adapts creative activities, so they are accessible, supportive, and tailored to each individual’s strengths.

To create a safe an encouraging environment where learners can express themselves, build confidence, and improve emotional wellbeing through art. They also help develop practical skills using flexible teaching methods and accessible materials.

Overall, their role is to guide creative development at a comfortable pace while helping each person feel a sense of achievement and independence.

  • 1. Provide tailored tutoring or learning sessions that meet the individual needs, abilities, and goals of learners, ensuring activities are accessible and meaningful.
  • 2. To prepare and deliver high quality and well-structure art sessions, including all planning and evaluation processes such as Schemes of Work.
  • 3. Support learners to develop practical everyday skills such as communication and social skills.
  • 4. Modify resources, communication methods, and teaching strategies to suit a wide range of physical, sensory, and cognitive needs.
  • 5. Encourage active engagement in learning sessions and community-based activities, promoting equality, dignity, and respect at all times.
  • 6. Liaising with support staff, carers s to ensure consistent and holistic support for each learner.
  • 7. Maintain accurate records of learner progress, achievements, and support needs, contributing to individual learning plans and reviews.
  • 8. Follow safeguarding policies and procedures to always ensure the safety and wellbeing of vulnerable adults, reporting concerns appropriately.
  • 9. Use supportive and respectful approaches to manage challenging behaviour, focusing on de-escalation and understanding underlying needs.
  • 10. Motivate learners to set and work towards achievable goals, celebrating progress and achievements to build confidence and independence.
