The Careers and Employability Officer will play a key role in delivering high-quality career education, information, advice and guidance to students studying at BSU Canary Wharf. Working as part of the wider Careers and Employability team, they will support students across all stages of their career development journey, helping to build career confidence, improve employability skills, and successfully navigate career development.
The successful candidate will work directly with students through workshops, drop-ins and one-to-one appointments, deliver curricular and extracurricular careers support, and contribute to recruitment events and induction activities.
- Deliver professional careers information, advice and guidance to students across Business and Management, Computing and Health and Social Care Management.
- Support students in exploring career options, identifying strengths and transferable skills, and developing career action plans.
- Provide advice on career planning, further study, job searching, entrepreneurship, applications, and interviews.
- Use labour market information to inform student guidance.
- Signpost students to appropriate university support services.
- Ensure guidance is inclusive, accessible and tailored to individual needs.
- Lead and deliver a regular careers information and advice drop-in service.
- Review CVs, cover letters, Linked In profiles, personal statements, and job applications.
- Support interview preparation, assessment centres and psychometric testing.
- Help students develop effective application documents.
- Maintain guidance resources aligned to student needs and labour market trends.
- Design, deliver and evaluate employability workshops and career education sessions.
- Deliver sessions on career planning, networking, job search strategies and professional development.
- Contribute to curriculum-based employability activity where required.
- Support careers fairs, employer networking events and guest speaker sessions.
- Support student inductions and welcome activities.
- Promote careers services and employability opportunities.
- Encourage participation in workshops, events and development opportunities.
- Represent Careers & Employability at Open Days, Applicant Days and recruitment events.
- Engage prospective students and visitors on employability support available at Bath Spa University.
- Maintain accurate records using university systems including Target Connect.
- Monitor engagement and contribute to reporting requirements.
- Ensure compliance with university policies and data protection requirements.
- Work collaboratively across Careers & Employability and Student Experience teams.
- Participate in team meetings and continuous improvement activities.
- Keep up to date with labour market and employability developments.
- Degree-level qualification or equivalent professional experience.
- Experience providing careers, employability, advice, guidance or coaching support.
- Experience conducting one-to-one appointments or coaching conversations.
