Graduate Fire Engineer – Compliance & Safety Team
The Keegans Group is looking for a Graduate Fire Engineer within the Compliance and Safety Team, who will provide fire safety support and advice. This full‑time/permanent position is based in London, but we will consider applications nationwide.
Responsibilities- Attend and support senior engineers at project meetings and workshops with internal and external stakeholders, providing guidance and recommendations.
- Review design information, including drawings, stage reports and specifications, and provide fire safety related comments and advice.
- Assist with the preparation of technical reports and guidance notes related to fire safety issues.
- Research fire safety implications of new technologies, materials, approaches, and changing regulation, and provide support and guidance based on completed research.
- Conduct qualitative and/or quantitative fire risk assessments and present findings to stakeholders.
- Generate fire safety strategy reports for projects for new and existing buildings.
- Assist with the preparation of External Walls Appraisals to PAS 9980 guidance and attend site visits to witness open‑up works and draft reports.
- Update and maintain internal best‑practice guidance and documentation and help generate proposals for design or research services.
- Manage your own workload, tasks and time to meet agreed deadlines.
- Ambitious and driven to develop further skills and knowledge, aiming to become a chartered or incorporated engineer registered through the Engineering Council and the Institution of Fire Engineers.
- Apply rigorous engineering approaches to safety, such as qualitative and quantitative risk assessment, probabilistic and deterministic analysis.
- Good interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact with and adapt to a diverse range of people, and work well in a team.
- Degree in construction or engineering (e.g., Surveying, Fire Safety Engineering, Civil or Structural Engineering).
- Professional membership with the RICS, CABE or IFE/IFSM at student or affiliate level.
- Minimum 2 years of experience in fire engineering or a related discipline (may include industry placement). Desirable experience in fire safety engineering, façade fire engineering or surveying.
- Experience using BIM, AutoCAD or similar for design and design reviews.
- Knowledge of regulatory and guidance frameworks including Building Regulations, Fire Safety Act, Building Safety Act, BS 9991 and 9999 and other guidance.
