Senior Highway Engineer
A leading highways contractor is seeking an experienced Senior Highways Engineer to join its expanding highway engineering team based in Central London. The contractor delivers highways maintenance and improvement services across major TfL contracts, and the successful candidate will support delivery and design activities across a rapidly growing workload.
The role will be varied and hands‑on, combining highways design with technical support to the in‑house design team. You will be joining a motivated team co‑located with the delivery and design functions, enabling close collaboration and high‑quality project outcomes.
Role Responsibilities- Deliver multidisciplinary highways projects from proposition through to construction, balancing competing demands and priorities.
- Review and approve highways infrastructure designs and technical outputs.
- Prepare and review technical reports, drawings, specifications, and schedules.
- Provide construction support to the delivery team.
Supervise and mentor junior engineers and graduates.
- Relevant degree or HND/HNC (preferably in engineering) or equivalent qualifications.
- Chartered or Incorporated Engineer status (ICE, CIHT, or equivalent), or significant relevant experience.
- Minimum 7 years' experience in a highways design role.
- Proven track record in highways design and/or delivery with in‑depth understanding of highways and traffic engineering principles.
Strong CAD and Civil 3D capability. - Experience with Keylines & Key Signs software.
- Proficient in Microsoft Project.
Excellent time management and prioritisation skills. - Able to work independently and collaboratively within a team.
- Strong working knowledge of relevant industry standards, including:
- DMRB
- MCHW
- Traffic Signs Manual
- TfL Streets Toolkit
- You must have Highways experience to be considered for this position.
