Mechanical Engineer – Building Services (Healthcare Sector)

We are seeking an experienced Mechanical Engineer to support the operation, maintenance, and optimisation of critical building services within a live healthcare environment.
This role is vital to ensuring the reliable and efficient performance of mechanical systems across the site, including heating, cooling, and HVAC infrastructure essential to continuous operations.
The successful candidate will demonstrate a proactive approach to maintenance, strong technical skills, and a commitment to delivering safe, compliant, and energy-efficient building services.
Key Responsibilities
* Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot HVAC systems and associated distribution networks
* Manage and maintain Low & Medium Temperature Hot Water (LTHW & MTHW) systems
* Manage and maintain Chilled Water (CHW) systems to ensure optimal cooling performance
* Oversee and maintain compressed air systems ensuring reliability and efficiency
* Conduct routine inspections and preventative maintenance on Air Handling Units (AHUs)
* Optimise HVAC performance to maintain compliant environmental conditions
* Respond promptly to breakdowns and emergency callouts to minimise downtime
* Ensure all works comply with health, safety, and environmental standards
* Maintain accurate maintenance records and compliance documentation
* Support energy efficiency initiatives and identify system improvements
* Liaise with stakeholders and maintenance teams to ensure coordinated delivery
Requirements
* Recognised Mechanical or Electrical Engineering qualification (C&G, NVQ, HNC or equivalent)
* Proven experience maintaining HVAC systems including AHUs and FCUs
* Experience working with BMS or electrical control systems
* Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and schematics
* Strong knowledge of commercial hot and cold water systems
* Experience working with pipework systems, valves, and distribution networks
* Experience operating and maintaining compressed air systems
* Good understanding of statutory compliance within building services
* Knowledge of chillers, controls, and mechanical plant
Desirable
* Previous experience within a healthcare or critical environment
* AP/CP or similar appointment relating to ventilation systems
* Understanding of healthcare ventilation guidance (eg HTM standards)
* Ability to obtain DBS clearance
