Position: Technical Director (Infrastructure Planning)
Location: City Of London

Senior Consultant – Infrastructure Planning

We are looking for an experienced Senior Consultant to support town planning and consenting inputs on major and nationally significant infrastructure projects. The successful candidate will have demonstrable experience working within multidisciplinary teams to secure consent and approvals for major or nationally significant infrastructure projects through the relevant planning statutes.

Key clients include National Grid, National Gas, Nuclear Waste Services, EET Fuels, Eni UK, SSE, Scottish Power Renewables, Severn Trent Water, Southern Water, United Utilities, Yorkshire Water, and many more.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead consenting inputs on major projects (DCOs, DNSs, TWAOs, etc.).
  • Provide strong technical leadership and advice to clients and manage their consenting requirements.
  • Coordinate preparation and submission of consent applications under relevant planning acts.
  • Act as Project Director for projects led and managed by the Infrastructure Planning business.
  • Lead complex negotiations with statutory bodies and stakeholders on behalf of clients.
  • Act as Planning Expert Witness at DCO examinations or other hearings or inquiries.
  • Support and pursue new work winning opportunities aligned with WSP’s Growth Strategy.
  • Demonstrate understanding of project finances and project management experience within a consultancy environment.
  • Line‑manage and mentor colleagues in their project delivery roles.
Required Qualifications
  • Degree level qualification in town planning (or equivalent).
  • Member of the RTPI.
  • Experience securing consents for major projects under the Town and Country Planning Act 1990, Planning Act 2008, Transport and Works Act Order, Planning (Wales) Act 2015, Town and Country Planning (Scotland) Act, or Electricity Act.
