Job Description

The Senior Building Regulations Principal Designer (BRPD) will act as the key liaison between the lead designer and WSP’s engineering and specialist teams on major projects across various industry sectors. The role involves developing and implementing BRPD strategy, overseeing design aspects, and ensuring compliance with the Building Safety Act 2022 and other regulatory requirements.

Responsibilities
  • Represent the Design Management team and develop the BRPD strategy and process within WSP.
  • Collaborate with engineers and specialists on projects and in the delivery of BRPD processes and solutions, for both High Risk and Non High Risk Buildings.
  • Oversee design objectives, deliverables, and standards, aligning to the principals set on the Building Safety Act 2022.
  • Provide leadership, direction, and coordination to the design team, guiding projects from inception to completion.
  • Lead the development of strategies, implement processes, ensuring alignment with project goals and client requirements.
  • Develop and manage the BRPD process, coordinating with all stakeholders.
  • Track, evaluate, and report project progress against the BRPD process, representing the design team at progress review meetings.
  • Coordinate the resolution of risks and issues at the project and design level across all stakeholders.
  • Define, organise, and implement project set‑up and mobilisation.
  • Coordinate with design consultants and other project stakeholders.
  • Manage the development of project briefs, scopes of work, and design schedules.
  • Facilitate interdisciplinary design workshops to demonstrate competency and compliance with BRPD requirements.
  • Ensure adherence to regulatory requirements, industry standards, and best practices to maintain quality and safety throughout the design process.
  • Oversee the preparation of design and construction documentation, including drawings, specifications, and schedules.
  • Assist in the completion and handover of the project to the client, ensuring all design deliverables are provided.
  • Support bids and opportunities.
The Team
  • Design Management team covering large and complex multidisciplinary projects in the property and building sector.
  • Reporting to a Technical Director or Director, career development opportunities are available.
  • Opportunities to support specific sectors and represent sector interests while broadening experience across different sectors.
  • Team expected to grow rapidly, providing good career opportunities.
  • Role reports to a senior leader within the Design Management team in the WSP UK Property and Buildings business.
Qualifications and Experience
  • Chartership, professional accreditation, or close to achieving either.
  • Experience acting as a client‑facing design manager or technical lead and coordinator in large or complex multidisciplinary projects.
  • Familiarity with all RIBA design stages, with experience in Stages 1 to 3 including planning submissions.
  • Highly organised and proactive.
  • Collaborative attitude and ability to communicate effectively with all stakeholders.
  • Experience working within large multidisciplinary projects preferred.
  • Interest in innovation and developing new solutions.
