Principal Highway Engineer – London

Drive the delivery of high-profile highways and public realm projects across London and the UK. This role offers ownership of complex infrastructure schemes, technical leadership, team mentoring, and active involvement in design and delivery of industry-leading projects.

My client is a respected multi-disciplinary consultancy delivering specialist services across highways, transportation, infrastructure and construction sectors. They offer excellent learning and progression opportunities.

• Lead delivery of highways, streetscape and public realm projects from concept through to construction.
• Provide technical leadership and quality assurance across multiple design teams.
• Develop highway designs in accordance with DMRB, TfL Streetscape Guidance, LTN 1/20, LCDS, TSRGD and other relevant standards.
• Manage project programmes, resources and technical outputs.
• Build and maintain strong relationships with clients and key stakeholders.
• Mentor and develop engineers across the team.
• Oversee statutory undertaker coordination and multidisciplinary project delivery.
• Ensure compliance with CDM 2015 and industry best practice.
• Identify innovative engineering solutions that deliver value for clients.
• Support the continued growth and technical excellence of the highways business.

• A degree in Civil Engineering or equivalent experience.
• Extensive highways design experience within a consultancy environment.
• Excellent technical knowledge of highways design standards.
• Strong project leadership and coordination experience.
• Experience managing multidisciplinary project teams.
• Excellent client‑facing and communication skills.
• Experience mentoring and developing engineers.
• Strong commercial awareness and project management skills.
• Chartered Engineer status (CEng) or Incorporated Engineer (IEng), or working towards professional accreditation.

Salary: £60,000 – £67,000 per year, dependent on experience.
