About the role
This role is a 9-month Fixed Term Contract.
Footballco is looking for a creative and accomplished Video Editor specialising in long-form You Tube content, who is passionate about football and understands what it takes to create entertaining, engaging and high-performing video content.
Our ever-growing team is constantly innovating with new video formats to share with our audiences across You Tube and other platforms. We’re looking for a video editor who wants to be at the forefront of that, with a particular focus on quiz, game and entertainment-led formats created for commercial clients.
The successful applicant will play an important role in the creation of regular, repeatable You Tube formats, helping to turn strong concepts and recorded material into polished, entertaining shows that hold an audience’s attention from the opening seconds through to the end.
This role requires someone who understands that editing You Tube content is about more than simply assembling footage. You will need a strong understanding of audience retention, pacing, storytelling, character, comedy, competition and engagement, and how editorial choices can influence how long an audience stays with a video.
You will be working on content where the audience is often following a game, quiz, challenge or competition. The editor therefore needs to understand how to build anticipation, reveal information at the right moment, create jeopardy and make the viewer want to see the outcome.
The person we are looking for is immersed in You Tube and digital video, understands current trends in long-form content and has a strong instinct for what makes a show entertaining and watchable. You will be part of a team that lives for football and operates to its calendar, so excellent communication, organisation and planning skills are also essential.
What you’ll be doing:
- Editing long-form You Tube videos, particularly quiz, game, challenge and entertainment-led formats.
- Turning recorded material into polished, engaging and repeatable ‘show’ content.
- Working closely with producers to understand the creative concept, format, narrative and intended audience.
- Making editorial decisions that maximise audience engagement and retention.
- Creating strong openings and maintaining momentum throughout the edit.
- Structuring games and quizzes so that the viewer clearly understands the premise, stakes, progression and outcome.
- Using editing, graphics, sound design, music, reactions and cutaways to enhance entertainment value and create a compelling viewing experience.
- Identifying opportunities within footage to create stronger hooks, moments of humour, tension, surprise and payoff.
- Developing and improving repeatable video formats so that each episode feels consistent while continuing to evolve.
- Editing versions and cutdowns where required for other platforms and promotional purposes.
- Managing projects and media throughout the production process, ensuring that all files are stored on the server using agreed folder structures, naming conventions and organisational standards.
- Maintaining clean and consistent project files, including source media, Premiere projects, graphics, audio, exports and other associated assets.
- Ensuring completed projects and source material are properly backed up, clearly labelled and structured…
