About the OrganisationStay Safe East is a small but dedicated charity that empowers disabled individuals to protect themselves and seek justice. As a volunteer‑based organisation, we rely on the support of committed trustees to ensure we remain well‑run and compliant.
About the RoleThe Treasurer is a vital post on the trustee Board. Though we are a small organisation, a hands‑on Treasurer is essential for maintaining robust financial systems, guiding strategic growth, and supporting business and fundraising initiatives.
Responsibilities- Collaborate with the Finance Officer, Operations Manager, and CEO to oversee financial matters.
- Approve and present payments, budgets, accounts, and financial statements.
- Ensure that financial resources meet current and future needs and that appropriate reserve policies are in place.
- Prepare and present financial reports to the Board, ensuring compliance with statutory requirements (Charity Commission, funders).
- Maintain financial policies, procedures and controls.
- Liaise with staff and volunteers about financial matters.
- Advise on the financial implications of strategic plans.
- Ensure accounts are scrutinised appropriately (audit, independent examination) and implement recommendations.
- Keep the Board informed of financial duties and responsibilities.
- Support the fundraising strategy.
- Make a formal presentation of the accounts at the Annual General Meeting.
- Financial qualifications and experience.
- Experience in charity finance, fundraising and pension schemes.
- Ability to analyse proposals and examine financial consequences.
- Willingness to provide ad‑hoc advice and support to staff.

- Understanding and acceptance of the legal duties, responsibilities and liabilities of trusteeship.
