Documentary Credits Officer - Commodities
Based:
London / Hybrid
Our client is a well-respected International Metals Commodity Trading Company based in Central London.
All aspects of achieving successful payment by documentary credit, including most importantly, issuing the documentation for presentation, in line with business policies, procedures & standards, and the conditions of individual contracts and LCs.
Working hand-in-hand with the Operators, Traders, Trading Managers, internal departments and LC Advising Banks to successfully present documents and secure payment for each transaction.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Review incoming export Letters of Credit for workability, and request LC Amendments where necessary
- Prepare documentation to be presented to banks under sales-side Letters of Credit compliantly and in accordance with UCP
600 - Liaise with banks after documentation presentation to ensure smooth negotiation and release of payment promptly
- Ensure all sales invoices are raised in a timely manner, working in accordance with month-end timetables
- Act as a key contact point and problem-solver for any queries/issues relating to technicalities of documentary credits, including a high level of knowledge and experience of applying UCP 600
- Opening Letters of Credit on Supplier where applicable
- Checking documentation received from suppliers and arranging payment of supplier invoices in line with company procedures
- Keeping filing up to date
- General administration as required
- Working with Accounts Dept to assist with month end and audit processes
- Any other tasks as reasonably assigned
KNOWLEDGE, QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS REQUIRED:
- Minimum 2 years’ experience in a similar role, ideally at a commodity trading company or commodity trade finance bank
- Commercial understanding of international commodity trading, ideally with experience of metals
- Knowledge of Letters of Credit, UCP 600, Incoterms and invoicing
- Ability to work independently whilst having strong teamwork skills
- Excellent communication skills both orally and in writing
- Full fluency of English (both written and oral)
- Strong attention to detail
- Ability to juggle many tasks concurrently by prioritizing effectively
- Good customer service skills
- IT skills on Microsoft Office Suite, SAP experience would be useful but not essential
