About The TeamThe Force Control Room is a fast‑paced, high responsibility operational environment that acts as the central hub for managing emergency and non‑emergency demand across the force area. The team is responsible for receiving, assessing and prioritising calls for service, deploying resources effectively, and providing real‑time support to officers and partner agencies to protect the public and manage risk.
The team is made up of call handlers, dispatchers, and supervisors who work collaboratively under pressure, applying professional judgment, empathy and structured decision‑making. Guided by the College of Policing Competency and Values Framework, the Force Control Room plays a critical role in delivering ethical, victim‑focused and intelligence‑led policing response, 24 hours a day.
AboutThe Role
The Force Control Room Supervisor is responsible for providing operational leadership within a high‑demand, time‑critical environment, ensuring the effective management of calls for service, deployment of resources and real‑time incident response. The role involves maintaining oversight of risk, demand and welfare, while ensuring decisions are proportionate, lawful and in line with force policy and the National Decision Model.
Supervisors lead and support teams of call handlers and dispatchers, providing guidance, quality assurance and professional development while promoting a positive, inclusive and resilient working culture. The role requires sound judgement, clear communication and the ability to balance operational priorities with victim focus, officer safety and organisational values, in accordance with the College of Policing Competency and Values Framework.
Responsibilities- Lead and supervise a Force Control Room Team/Shift, ensuring an effective, efficient policing service to the public, partners and colleagues.
- Ensure appropriate policing responses to incidents, assessing threat, harm and risk in line with force and national SOPs, and escalating to Duty Inspector or FIM where required.
- Provide line management and operational support to Control Room officers and staff, including welfare oversight, performance management and professional development.
- Maintain oversight of deployments and quality assurance, ensuring appropriate use of resources, accurate CAD management and safeguarding against residual risk.
