Duration: 12 months.
Hackney Council is seeking a Sustainability and Climate Change Officer to work alongside our Principal Sustainability and Climate Change Officer, helping to deliver the Council’s Net Zero Carbon ambitions within Planning and address the Climate Emergency in Hackney. The role is focused on ensuring that new developments in the borough meet the highest environmental standards.
Responsibilities- Promote best practice that embeds energy and carbon considerations in the planning process.
- Participate in guidance and policy making and negotiate positive design changes as part of the development management process.
- Provide technical support to the planning team and negotiate with developers, balancing competing pressures in Hackney.
- Collaborate with other Council departments and partner organisations to deliver commitments in the Climate Action Plan and tackle the climate emergency.
- Analytical approach to work, excellent organisational skills and exceptional written and oral communication skills.
- Degree-level qualification in Architecture, Town Planning, Urban Design or a relevant postgraduate qualification (e.g., Sustainable Architecture, Environmental, Sustainability or Energy and Carbon Planning).
- Experience working in the UK built environment with a focus on energy and carbon is desirable but not essential.
